I didn't call the man a big butt to my son, I just used the words in my question... and for the ones that think kids are in the way or slow that still does not give anyone the right to be rude...and my son didn't say how rude to the man..he express him self..just to me../lets put the shoe on the other foot..child pushs his way past a big person..then he is a rude brat..right?

Yes you are right..Somehow we believe with age comes certain pseudo rights and apparently one of them is that it is ok to be rude with younger people. When I was little I noticed this unfortunate trait with people and find it repulsive...Just because they are younger does not mean they aren't people!

It is never okay for anyone to be rude. Children do not get away with as much as Adults because as Adults it is our responsibiltiy to teach children and we have the authority to discipline them for wrong behavior and reward good behavior. We do not have the same control over other adults and children certainly do not have the authority. Everyone has moments of rudeness. One isolated incident of rude behavior does not justify classifying the person as a rude individual. You yourself have shown the ability to be rude by referring the man as a "big butted man" and emphasizing the word "big" when referring to the man sarcastiacally to your son, Jay. Children pick up on these sorts of things. Instead of using the incident as a positive teaching moment for your son, you chose to teach your son it is okay to critsize a person's size. What may be rude behavior to some may not be considered so for others. It is possible he did not realize he bumped, Jay. If he did realize it, he should have appologized or at least said, "excuse me." But you have no control what other adults do. All you can do is take the incident and make it a positive learning experience for Jay by telling him that no one likes it when people are rude. The man should have said, "excuse me" or "I'm sorry." He could have said, "pardon me" to request that Jay move out of his way. Jay's response then should have been, "exuse me" and stepped aside. The man's behavior you can not control, but you can teach Jay the proper way to handle such situations for the future.

Maybe the man was annoyed by the fact that your son had to help you, sometimes even children with the best intentions can still be in other people's way. Many people, myself included, do not like to have to tolerate the slow pace of children when they are attempting to accomplish things. Although the man was kind of rude, myself, i would have just gone about getting the rest of my things and went back to get the cookies after you guys were finished.

It is NOT okay. We adult need to be teaching by example - and not just the parents. The people who are asking what is wrong with kids today are the same ones who are cutting people off on the highway and pushing them aside at the store. They look down on kids and other adults while complaining about their attitude.
It really does take a village. Kudos to you for raising a polite child!

Unfortunetly there are many rude, ignorant, uneducted, nasty and stupid people living among us! we just have to learn to live with them and remind ourselves that we are better than that, ignore the behavior, act with class and move on w/ our lives-
And even if a child is "slowing things down for us" or whatever the reason -- we must still be polite and use 'excuse me', 'sorry' or 'please' when it is necessary.
