my father says that because we're both on verizon text and calls are free. but he lives on the other side of the US so it's long distance. that i don't have. so he gave me his cell number and told me to text him from the computer. how do i go about doing that?

You could try going to the Verizon website. I've sent a text message to a Sprint person by just going to the Sprint website and clicking on the "send a text message" link.

Check the Verizon web site, as it is different with every carrier, but..
Usually you just send an e-mail using his phone number (say 555-123-4567) as the user. Something like 555-123-4567@verizon.com. But check the web site for the exact "wording"
Oh, and keep the message short as many phones only do 250 characters in a text message.

Open yahoo messenger, Go to Actions at the top, select "Send a Text".

you can try their verizon website and see if u can text from there. if you can't, then there's always yahoo and aim that you can use to send a txt to mobile

Yes . . do you know what service he uses (ie verizon, sprint, etc)... once you do . . just go to their website & usually you can text them directly from that site.
