I had Gastric Bypass 26 mo. ago & my Dr. has me taking 24 vitamins a day, I do not absorb things the way I did before surgery so I need to take more vitamins than someone that has not had the surgery. My Dr. does not know exactly what vitamins/doses I should take, just whatever my tests show me low on. I think I am taking WAY to many, but I do not know how to figure out the correct dose...I have read lots of vitamin books & according to them I am taking about 8,000 vitamins LESS than I should take...lol

Try to take vitamins that are liquid so once you place them on or under your tongue they will absorb immediatley. You can find these vitamins in your natural health food store. And my Mother had gastric Bypass and she went through many months of training and to get advice and educated on what her surgery will intake and what she will have to do post-surgery. My Mom takes a childrens chewable and I know she gets a B-12 shot once a month. I'm not sure what else she takes but I know those two for sure but what is really scarey is that YOUR DOCTOR doesn't know! Maybe check around for a new doc too! Good luck!

I had gastric bypass in 2000, and I get along fine with taking 2 centrium's a day, and my viactiv for my calcium intake. For the centrium, I take a pill cutter and cut it in half since they are pretty big. 24 vitamins a day is way too many. Hope this helps! :)

Whew, and I thought my 12 a day was bad. I take more pills now than I did before my surgery in 2003.

Thanks for asking the question though, I can't wait for all the answers. May help me too.
