Stance: feet shoulder width apart. Weight mostly on back SOME on front foot. Keep your head LEVEL to ground.

Timing: wait, wait, WAIT for it-

Swing: pitch wrists DOWN as you swing, transfer weight forward, turn your hips, follow through with bat all the way across the plate and over your shoulder.

Bat speed not power drives the hit...practice in the cages before every game.

Pick a zone, wait for the pitch to enter the zone, and then hit the crap out of it. Slow pitch softball is about rythm...at practice, concentrate on the same pitch, same zone and try a slight upswing. You must meet the ball out in front of you to pull it. This is one time practice makes perfect. I used to swing a 36 oz. bat but as I got older, I went to a lighter bat. I have used DeMarini exclusively for the last 5 years, with a worth thrown into the mix just to change the rythm. I use a 32 oz. now and I LIKE IT.

source: 30 years slow pitch softball, over 1000 homeruns and 12 state, 3 regional and 1 national championship.

Since the ball comes fairly "slow" you have time to watch it and decide if it's a fair strike. If you feel confident that you can hit it then swing away. Good things can happen when you swing the bat but if you're too afraid to swing nothing will happen at all.

KEEP YOUR EYE ON THE BALL AND WATCH THE BAT REACH OUT AND MEET THE BALL. DO NOT TRY AND HIT IT OVER THE FENCE UNTIL YOU HAVE THE CO-ORDINATION TO HIT THE BALL CONSISTANTLY. REMEMBER THIS: IN SLOW PITCH, HOME RUNS DO NOT WIN BALL GAMES. SINGLES DO.
