Tide with bleach works really well for me.

I use Sunlight with whitening in it. You can also use any type of laundry detergent and a colour-safe bleach. I've done this and it works good for white clothes.

I just use whatever's around and add bleach if I can. Also drying your whites on the clothesline outside lets the sun bleach them a little.

Try adding Calgon water softner to your wash with regular tide
