I read on a site one time, I think it was a wiccan (white magic) site that was giving examples on how to start witchcraft. I know that sounds all fairy talish....but they were explaining how you can control your dreams somehow by realising what is happening and not waking up, then taking control in your dream and doing whatever you want. I know this sounds far fetched, but that's why I ask. Has anyone ever done this or know if it's psychologically possible. I do know that I can sometimes extend my dream by realising that I'm dreaming and not waking up so I can see what happens next. I've tried a couple times but not really taken it seriously. Wouldn't that be weird though? Had to ask.. love Yahoo! Answers!!

Excellent question!

Yes, I've done this several times, usually during a nightmare that I want to terminate. One technique is to insinuate yourself into the dreamscape and attempt to take some control of the events as they are unfolding. It can be a real struggle, even exhausting I've found, but it can be done.

Another method I've employed in particularly unpleasant nightmares is to literally escape or abort the dream. This too requires tremendous effort and can prove quite taxing on the nervous system but I've succeeded here as well.

I think it is very definitely far-fetched to simply assume we can take charge of our dreams and control them entirely, but under certain circumstances a degree of control can be achieved. Even if that sense of control means only ending a bad dream, you've still accomplished something.

Work on it. Try and see how much influence you can have on your own dreams, especially when you don't like what's happening in them. It's worth the struggle, believe me. Good luck!

Lucid dreams are very much exist. Everyone has the abilty to aquire them. Why woudn't you. The average person sleeps for 1/3 of their life. Thats about 25 years. Make the best of it. There are alot of techniques. The easiest one is to tell yourself "I am awake" or "am i sleeping" during the day as many times you remeber to. Eventualy u will do the same in your dreams. And when you do, youl have control of your dream. I do it all the time.

I take control of my dreams sometimes...But I think it's just when I'm almost awake not quite asleep when it happens. I think I still have control over my mind but the dreaming part of my mind is kicking in and random things start jumbling in with my thoughts.

Yes, I have done it when the dream is violent or threatening. I also taught my daughter at a young age to call me into her dreams whenever she got scared. It worked wonders on her nightmares. She still uses it today. I guess that would be another way of taking control of your dreams.

I think you're talking about lucid dreaming. Look it up.

And nope, I haven't done so myself... but I wish I could. :(
