Try booting into safe mode, if it load successfully then you have a driver issue, and I would take off the updates from there and try to reinstall them. If it happens again then it is in the update that is corrupting a driver.

I would check the screen. Has to be some error messages that are coming up, whether or not your computer has a Splash screen that covers the BIOS when booting I do not know. Try pressing Tab or ESC to show the BIOS while it is loading so you can get an error message. Usual problems I do see is that it says no operating system or such and the bootloader needs to be fixed with the XP CD in repair mode with the command fixboot

Not even safe mode?

Try and use the recovery console (boot from XP cd and follow directions) Do a chkdsk C: If all okay, the install may have fizzled try again, sorry.

If too many errors, get a new hd and retry.
