Is it common for some women to have a delayed period that may last 1-3 days or two? Can that still be considered a sign of pregnancy. And after that last short period , you won't have one for 8 more months?

No. That is not normal at all. Implantation bleeding happens 3 to 10 days after conception and it is just a few drops of blood. Usually, if you get a period you are not pregnant.

Go get a book called " what to expect when you are expecting". It's the pregnancy bible and will help with all these questions. It's excellent in describing all of these little things that worry moms and help distinguish when something is "normal" or not.
Good Luck!
