I want to take a pair of jeans and cut the bottoms off and let them get really fringy. How do you do that? do you cut the bottoms and then sow a single stich around them to prevent over fraying?

I had a pair of jeans I did this to ten years ago, and yes... That's exactly how I did it. :)

Just cut them off and wash and dry them a couple of times. When they begin to get "overfringy", just trim them up with scissors. Just don't start with them too short! Oh, and when you cut them off, it's easiest to make them even by folding them in half (one leg on top of the other) and starting them both at the same time and from both sides.
