why do they have braille on the keys at DRIVE - UP ATMs?

Because that's our brilliant government at work. The government requires all sorts of handicap specialties regardless of whether or not it makes sense.

There is a requirement for there to be braille on ATM machines, so there it is - even on the drive-up ones.

This is why you should keep the government out of your life as much as possible. It has no common sense, and can make your life a living hell because of that.

I worked at Diebold and here is why we did this... When we were making the ATM's, we did not know if they were going to be installed on a side-walk, in a mall or a drive up. The easiest way to protect the ADA was to just put Braille on all the machines.

They order the keys and faceplates in large batches from wholesalers. It's cheaper to use all the same parts than order special, non-braille parts for drive-up atms.

Just off the top of my head-

ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) Regulations.
Also, a sight-impaired person can use the drive up ATM- they get out of the car and with help, walk over to the terminal.

Simple as that.

Did you ever stop to think that maybe the blind person, took a cab to the ATM or had someone drive them there???? Blind people use money too, and need equal access.

Like the poster said, blind people need money too. Second thought, if a blind person is riding in the backseat, they have to be able to reach the ATM
