my best drawing stage is when I'm alone. Or at least in a place where no one is going to distract me. If someone is around talking to me or asking I tend to get distracted and then frustrated which renders my drawing capabilities useless.
When I feel like I can't draw something well, I try to draw the very basis of it. Let's say it's a shelf full of books, statues and ect.
I draw the outline of each thing so I can get a visual for it later, and then I work on it later when I am more relaxed or have more time to add details.
One thing I have realized is that most drawings don't need a superb amount of details. Just the places in the drawing where you want your audience to focus. Sometimes putting too many details in a drawing can make it look messy and unnattractive.
For example, Bob Ross painted landscapes...he never usually painted a tree leaf by leaf. It was usually 1 or 2 "happy little strokes" to make that "happy little tree".
Good Luck!

It's like wanting to play piano but not being able to read music or know how to produce a tune with all of those keys. You need to learn how. It is a process. You need to teach yourself the ways to make an idea lay down on the paper and then look like the idea that you have in your head. It took me a lot of years to learn that. If I had a good teacher I may have learned it much faster. In this learning process you will also learn how to find that spot in your mind where you are productive.
These are all techniques that can be learned. The question of learning them is the same for learning to play the piano . . . do you want to learn it badly enough to do the lessons and the endless practicing? It doesn't just "HAPPEN". It takes work and desire.

There is two answers. ( 1.) If you ARE using and 'object' to try to use as a 'prop' - with your own interperations... ( 2.) If you just 'see an image in your mind' - JUST draw that image you are seeing the best you can and does not matter how well it is drawn as long as you have some sort of general indication of what you would like to draw in a better. Which ever of the two choice above you use, " On your drawing pad, just draw 'Which ever one you are looking to draw' - - DRAW what you are trying to express - "UPSIDE DOWN"... Ex: If you had a regular flower base, but in your mind you 'see the vase', and (say you want to put wings on each side) - Draw the vase on your pad upside do to you, and then from you mind, see some wings, and just add them on to the vase you have just drawn... After finishing your first 'upside down drawing', use that to look at, and draw up-side down again, making any changes, your mind my want to change.

Yes all the time in fact!! I sometimes pay people 5 to 10 dollars for a commision because I can't get the idea out of my head until it's on paper, but I don't have the talent to do it, but they do.
Relaxed mood, I don't know, maybe soft music, low lighting, the basics, classics for a reason.

I do understand. I have some good ideas, but I can't draw worth anything. Anyway, I just meditate to relax. Maybe burn some inscence or candles. IT's a bit different for everyone, but that works for me.

No, I'm an artist so I really don't have that problem. You might want to get away from any distractions (turn off that cell phone) and play some classical (or whatever) music to relax you. Vivaldi's really good.

To get there my only advise is, no distractions. Play music other than what you are use to ,preferably with no lyrics or you'll find yourself singing along. It works for me. Want proof? Go to website hellosanantonio.com Under local artist look for the name GUERRO.
