I have an Emachines T6212 and for some odd reason, the Cd burner stopped working. It is a TSST-CORP, model unknown. I recently put in a new drive connector cable, but that does not help. It can read CD and DVD fine, but iTunes and other burning apps lock up when I try to burn. Please help!

Emachines are garbage. Cheap computers made with cheap parts. I'm not surprised to hear you're having CD burner problems already.

Be that stated, it's probably not the applications causing the problem with your drive (as I'm sure you're aware) but the drive itself. Being that it's probably made with the same cheapness as your computer, you're probably just best off getting a new drive. They're relatively inexpensive. Just don't go buying the cheapest CD burner on the market otherwise you'll be reposting your question again soon enough.

One thing to try is flashing the bios, but you'd need the EXACT make, model AND revision of your drive to get the right BIOS.
However these devices use different lasers for reading and writing and sometimes the writing laser burns out. In other cases, it may simply be the logic board has gone bad. Either way, chances are it's not repairable (for less than the $50 CDN it'd take to buy a new one), so I suggest replacing the drive.
If the machine were a notebook, it might be worth some effort, but you would have to have an electronics background and access to cheap parts (like from other dead drives of the exact same make and model)

Try with a DVD cleaner disk, if this doesn't work, you should buy another.

DVD burners cost $70 USD in my town, why bother fixing one?

reinstall the software, that don't work go to control panel then add/remove hardware. then you will get a wizard click next then add/troubleshoot a device. If that don't work then same except remove device then restart it should reinstall itself
