1. Plug one hard disk as a master ( set the jumper in the HD to do this ), this must be the Windows HD.
2. Plug the second hard disk as a SLAVE, again changing the jumpers.
3. Check if your computer BIOS can see your 2 Hard Disks, if so, move to step 4, else check cabling, or ask for preofessional Help.
4. Enjoy your 2 HD's.

Sounds like you are installing a blank drive. You may have to install your operating system on the drive. Turn the pc off and put your 98 disk in, when you start it will read from the disk and then it will copy the needed files to the new drive. If is a USB drive, that would be more complicated as you can not boot from a USB device.

u add an additional HD? If so, make sure to set the jumper in the back of HD to be seconday (slave). Windows will recognize it.
Is this new one a replacement for the old one? If so, check the jumper to be primary (master) drive.
Good luck.

Probably you have corrupted your old HDD or the OS i.e. 98 has been corrupted. Now you have to ascertain whether your new hard disc is in good condition, make it the master and try to install any OS.

you may have to connect it straight to Mother Board, if not maybe ur hooking the wrong cable to it , it should Identify it as the Slave drive on the cable, power it off and then turn it back on, should recognize it. if it is unformatted that can also be an issue
