I have a 12 day old newborn daughter who is very fussy and I can hear gas bubbles in her little tummy. She cries nightly from about midnight to about 3 or 4 am. Her dr. changed her formula to Allimentum and told me to put milocon drops in every bottle because she said her tummy was full of air. I have done this for 7 days now and while I do notice a small amount of improvement, she is still very fussy. Should I try this gripe water, and if so, where can I get it?

Ok, I found a store that carries it here. Its called the Vitamin Shoppe. Now my next question is which brand, they have one by BMG and one by Wellements. Soes anyone know, or does the brand not matter?

Traditional gripe water contains a lot of alcohol. You can try one teaspoon of fennel tea before each feeding and ensure that the baby gets tummy time to help her work gas out.

Gripe water works wonders! It's the fennel and dill seed extracts with a small amount of bicarbonate of soda in the gripe water formula that is just magic for little ones. Gripe water has been around for over 100 years. It is available in Canada and other countries (not in the US because of a very minute amount of alcohol in the formula). It is very safe! You can also order it online, just google or yahoo search for "Gripe Water". I bought both the kind with the pinch of alcohol and the kind without and there was no difference. Those playtex nurser bottles (with the disposable liners) are better for gassy babies as well since you can fully remove extra air from the baby bottle. :) Less air, less gas. (((hugs)))

**** I don't think the brand matters, we used several different brands. Truly, despite the other answers you may have read... it really doesn't matter if you use alcohol or non alcohol gripe water. There is very very minute amounts of alcohol. The funny side effect I found was that my baby had "pickle juice" smelling breath from the Dill seed extract. LOL

I bought Baby Bliss gripe water when I had my second son. He was SO colicky, and I had tried everything else up until that point, so I bought the gripe water as a last resort. (I generally don't believe in herbal remedies, but was desperate.) It contains baking soda (as well as a few other natural herbs/extracts) and the ONLY thing it did for my son was to make him give these huge whopping belches (the baking soda did that). He was still fussy, squirmy, screaming, etc.

I used gripe water with my first 2 children and would not have survived without it. It is more difficult to find in the states , I got mine from Canada since we lived close to the border at the time. I would suggest doing an internet search for it. I know it is out there, as I did a search for a friend not long ago. With my youngest we took him to an O.D. instead of an M.D for his pediatric visits and she gave him treatments to get his spine more alligned and it worked wonders for gassiness and spitting up.
