The question clearly refers to a lake, not rivers or river systems i.e. Amazon river basin. SO search under fresh water lakes.

The lake is situated in Africa, apart from the fact that it contains the greatest number of fresh water fish species for a lake on the planet, it also contains the greatest number of endemic fish species.

Since apparently I got it wrong when I mentioned Lake Tanganyika the last time, I assume you are refering to the remnants of Lake Makgadikgadi, which dried up about 2000 years ago.

Today, those remnant lakes are known as Lake Victoria and Lake Malawi. There are a wide variety of cichlid species in particular found in those lakes and the remnant waterways nearby.
