Not all of them do, superman is releasing Wednesday.

Mainly they do it because most people have weekends off and have the time to see the movies then, and it boosts up teh opening revenue.

a) kids are out of school so you really have 3 days to get ppl going fri, sat, sun,

b) A lot of people that work mon-fri usually have weekend off to be with family

c)Its all about routines if people know that majority of movies comes out of friday so you more then likely going to go see it- if a movie was release everyday it might be a bit confusing for some people

Movies traditionally release on friday because opening weekend sales are a way to judge a film's success. Recently, more films have opened on thursdays and even wednesdays to inflate their opening weekend gross. Star wars is a great example of a wednesday release, but film companies will only do that with a really strong movie.

most of them release into theatres on fridays because that's when people have time to go see them at later times of the night. but yeah some movies do release on wednesdays it just depends on what the producers and sh!t want. Here's another question for thought why are most movies released into stores(on dvd video etc) on tuesdays? just because!♥

Because people go to movies more on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. They don't want to put the movie out on a Monday, have a few people go to the movie and find out it sucks, tell everyone, and then no one goes to the movie on the weekend.

Fridays are the weekend gateways ... that is when you can grab the most viewers for a cinematic release most of the time.

On occasion, depending on the push for the film, wednesdays are the next day chosen ... such as it is for Superman Returns. There are huge returns expected for that flick, so two extra days out will boost figures dramatically.

movies are usually released on fridays and wednesdays because those days are usually when movie-goers get paid. fridays are traditional because its the weekend and people have more time to dedicate. hollywood doesn't like working on mondays and thats why nothing ever happens then.
