Who says you need to wear black...
It's all about the eyes, go for a pink/plum colour on the cheeks and on the lips wear a natural lip colour.
For the eyes...Go for greys and pastel pinks.
Use a natuarl pink all over the eye, then apply a pastel pink on the eyelid, then add grey in the cracks of your eyes...then using a blending brush blend in.
I suggest using a brown eyeliner under your eyes, but if you can't apply it finely then try applying it in your eye.
If you have a white eyeliner apply that in your inner eye allowing you to apply more darker shades around your eye, as white eyeliner opens up your your eye giving the impression your eyes are slightly bigger than they are.
It depends on your eye colour though...if you have light eyes then you can get away with applying the grey shadow on ur eyelids and maybe under your eyelids...experiment, but don't make it look *** if you have tried too hard.
Remember you may look as if you have been punched at the end of the night so avoid too dark shades, especially under the eyes.
Good Luck and i hope i've made sense ;-) PS: have a good night!

1. Rim the lashes with eyeliner, top and bottom. On bottom, emphasize outer corner and draw line all the way to inside corner of eye. Smudge and soften lines with a sponge.
2. Sweep black or dark grey eye shadow into crease, and softly along bottom lashes. For intense effect, concentrate on the inner upper eye area.
3. Create highlights by using a light shadow along the brow bone.
4. Curl lashes and add mascara.
5. Define brow into a dramatic arch with matching pencil.

Use black mascara, and a liquid eyeliner on your top lashes. Use either a grey or black powder eyeshadow (depending on how dark your colouring is) Brush it along your top eyelid, only up to the crease, and then use your finger to smudge it upwards and towards the outside corner of your eye a bit. Tidy up the edges by sweeping a cotton bud up the sides of your eye - You can also use a khol (pencil) eyeliner to draw a line along your bottom lashes, then gentle smudge in a bit to stop the line looking harsh.

Make up is one of the things i do for my job. Choose a darker shade at the outer corner of your eye, and also under the outer corner of your eye. On your lid bring the color only over part of your lid from the corner, and then fill in the rest with a soft accenting color. I would recommend a soft frost.

Personally myself, i have never been daring to wear thick black eyeliner or dark grey and black shades of eyeshadow.
Ive always gone for eyeshadows that contain a glitter or metallic look when going out, Rimmel are great for these styles of eyeshadows. Take a look at this link: http://products.rimmellondon.com/en/1/viewproduct.mxs?mkt=2&cat=eyes&prod=176

Try doing the following. Apply a light shape of pink shadow on your upper lid all the way to your brow bone. Then draw your eyeliner and then choose a shadow close to your liner and apply it to your upper lid in the shape "<" and ">" shape to your upper outer corner of your eyes.

rim your eyes with dark liner and smudge it then put matching shadow over that and smudge that too..use lots of mascara or even false lashes...and a smokey gray or silver shadow would be good to accent all the dark makeup...and use a neutral lip liner and matching gloss...make your hair big and sexy too!
