National Minimum Wage is $5.15. All employers are required to pay at least that much (unless a large percentage of your income is from tips, then the minimum wage is $4.75). You are very fortunate to have found a job at age 14. My 15 year old daughter has been unsuccessful in finding a job because of her age. The labor laws regarding 14-15 year olds are very strict. Once you turn 16, the laws become much more slack and it will be easier to find a better job.
I know it seems so hard right now with everything you have going on, but stick with school. Your education will be the key to getting a good job and being able to take care of your child. Keep your friends and family close by and accept any help that is offered to you. Is your child's father around? Get as much help from him as you can. If he is unwilling, get paternity establish and get him paying child support. You will need all the help you can get.
Best of luck to you and your baby. I know it all seems impossible now and 14 is young to have a baby, but children are so precious. Enjoy your baby while you can, you will be glad you did.

Wow that is LOW! I made $8/hr at Target in high school! You might want to look for a better paying job. You will run into some problems though with your age since there are labor laws to keep children, such as yourself, from being over worked.
At 14 you've just barely begun life, and with a child already you are going to have many hard times to come. I hope you have a support system of some sort! Best of luck to you kid!

The minimum wage in Rhode Island is $7.10 an hour for adults. At fourteen the minimum wage is $5.33 /hr unless you work more than 24 hours a week in which case all hours worked in that week are payable at $7.10/hr.
As you may be entitled to the adult minimum wage because you are a mother you need to contact an expert. Expert advice in this matter can be obtained at the Rhode Island Department of Labour and Training. Give them a call at (401) 462-8740 or email your question to lmi@dlt.state.ri.us Good Luck!!
P.S- Be VERY VERY carefull about the previous answer.

According to the AFL-CIO website, Rhode Island has a $7.10 min wage and it will increase to $7.40 on 1/1/07. Look on your states website and see if the information is correct. Should be on the department of labor site/section. Your state may have a law about the minimum wage that may be effected by your age. Federal Min Wage is currently $5.15 unless you work for tips, then it is like $2.13 or something like that.

At age 14, you do not have many options. Stay in school! To work under age 16 anywhere, a special permit is required. The quality of your life and your baby's life depends on your education. It is good you have a job but continue to go to school. That is the only way you will be able to get better than minimum wage jobs. Also do not have any more children at this time. Concentrated on your child, going to school and working. Ther are many programs that offer support to teen moms. Get involved in one.

yea, i think that 5.50 is a little bit above the min-wage level. It's great that your working to support your baby, its hard to raise a child ( i know because i had my daughter when i was still in high school ) anyways just go to school -college- and you wont be working anymore of those min-wage jobs. Good luck to you and your baby!

Monster , Yahoo Hotjobs, Careebuilder are some of the largest job
boards, where you can upload
your resume. Since Craigslist, allows free job postings, many smaller
companies post their
vacancies on this online classifieds website. You can search for jobs
from multiple websites using
aggregators like SimplyHired and Indeed. Referrals are also becoming a
increasingly popular way to
get hired. More details available at http://tinyurl.com/emdyn

Depends on the state, each state has a different minimum wage... You should check with the department of labor. Also they should have a poster with the state's minimum wage clearly listed in the employee area. That is a federal law...

Believe it or not, minimum wage is $5.15 an hour. I think congress is considering $8 dollars an hour to possibly take effect in 2010. It's long overdue. Good luck.
