I have hired numerous people and I prefer white paper. I have also thrown many bright colored resumes in the trash. Here is a couple of other tips to help keep yours out of the trash.

1.Go in person to drop off your resume and application. I have graciously accepted many resumes from spouse and significant other to only throw them straight in the trash as soon as they turned their backs. The same goes for the mail (unless specifically requested).

2.Make sure you fill in all the questions on the application. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCE WRITE SEE RESUME. When you leave blanks and write see resume, It is as good as writing DON'T HIRE ME BECAUSE I CAN'T FOLLOW DIRECTION.

3. Dress the part. I have probably filled a small landfill with resumes because the person applying for a position showed up not dressed appropriately. Including T-shirts, polo-shirt, etc... Do some research before you show up, If you walk through the door and everybody is wearing a shirt and a tie. You better have the same appropriate attire.

Do not use white, you need a linen or parchment look to your resume, something to make it stand out from all the other copy/printer paper on the intended recipients desk.

Save colored paper for posters and attention getters. Even if this is an artsy job, or something where creativity is essential, you can play on that in your resume - the only creativity you will dispay with a colored resume is your creativity in choice of color... that is what a portfolio of your work represents, not the color of paper.

When sending out a resume it is better to print it on white paper if you are applying for a business-like job, because it will look professional. If you are applying for a fun, people-oriented job, such as a day-care facility use bright colored paper because it will show more enthusiasm and personality.

I would say a nice cream colored paper would be the best sometimes if you send it out on white it looks too plain. Look at OfficeDepot, Office Max or Staples type places and get a good high quality paper from there. You don't just want regular paper to send your resume out on.

Use white over bright colors. A good stone-looking paper makes a resume look more elegant, though. Look at Wal-mart...they have a pack of elegant resume paper.

Some people say bright paper draws attention but it really depends on the job. A law firm or financial institution may be turned off by a bright colored paper whereas a graphic design company or advertising/marketing firm might appreciate it.

It depends. If you are applying for an artsy job, like at an advertising agency, you might get better noticed by using colored paper.
For most jobs, use white paper.

Don't forget-- your resume is probably going to be photocopied at the place you apply for a job, so white paper is the best overall.

resumes should kinda look one thing: boring. Times new roman font and on white paper. Brightcolored paper just distracts the person you want to hier you and white paper looks more professional.

Resume on colored paper? heaven's no! Office Depot, Kinkos or any other office supply store sells a special type of resume paper. Your bond to have your credentials tossed in the trash if you opt to use colored paper!
