Unless she has unprotected sex recently, I would tell her not to worry. Like you said, she is young and just beginning to mature. Her periods will fluctuate alot and might never be on a regular schedule. I am 25 and my periods have never been on a regular schedule except when I was on the pill, so skipping periods and having a longer/shorter cycle is totally normal and nothing to worry about.

It's totally normal... It's enough of a common deal, that even a guy like myself has heard it. Out of 5 sisters, all of them had the same deal, and worry. (may be odd, but 5 girls trump 1 boy, so they were'nt shy about such things)
It's because that at your age, the hormone system that determine a woman's "cycle" are brand new, so hav'nt developed, and set into their own pattern. it'll take time. Even after puberty, some women are more "regular" than others. Every woman is different, so all have differences in this too. It'll take time for your cycle to set itself, so try not to worry.

If i were you i'd be wondering why she's worried sick about it!! Does she have something to worry about? Hope not!
To your daughter , it is perfectly normal to skip a period when you first start, your body is going through lots of changes right now, so calm down. Stress can also make you skip a period.

Yes, it is very normal to have irregular periods for up to a year after first starting...your body is figuring it out and they will become regular with time....(although some peoples are always irregular)

Mom, there are other reasons to miss your period....have you asked her about that?? Not trying to suggest anything but you might want to make sure she is not sexually active or anything...

Yeah, it's completely normal. When my friend had hers, sh had hers in October, she missed hers in November or December. She was worried, but I googled it and she totally understood. You see, you may even spot some months, it's all normal. Another one of my friends had her period in July. She missed hers for one month, spotted the next two, then had another. A webpage also said that it is normal if you miss it later. Your body is playing tricks on you. Your body is changing, and other weird things will happen. Don't sweat it.

Is your 12-year old daughter sexually active? If she is, then it may indeed be reason enough for her to be worried sick. I would suggest that you have a heart to heart talk (non-judgemental) with her and find out EXACTLY what is worrying her and why. Perhaps she kissed a boy and thinks that might make her pregnant. Or perhaps things got out of hand with a boy and that's worried her sick.

My 13 yr old daughter started her first period on her 13th birthday, and she misses like yours. The first time she missed she was worried bout it also and she even missed four months of them and to ease her mind I carried her to the dr who explained to her its normal for her just starting to miss and to start on different days of the month. That eased her mind so much.... So hun dont worry your cycle could be like that for a few months to a few years until your cycle gets normal.

it is pretty normal for girls to miss periods when they are just starting. It usually takes around 2 years to achieve regularity. Also, the first periods are usually anovulatory, which means that there is no egg to fertilize. This is completely normal.
But I would also ask if she is sexually active...
