I wondered the same thing. It seems pretty rude to be spending money from the smokers and tobacco companies to put such disgusting stuff on TV.

But, hey, at least they're spending part of their ill-gotten gains on smoking prevention. The vast majority of the lawsuit settlement money simply went into the general funds of the states. Can someone please explain that one? They sued the tobacco companies because supposedly they were trying to get children to smoke. Then they just used the money they won for pork projects and to balance their budgets.

Wasn't the money supposed to go to anti-smoking campaigns? Doesn't that make more sense? I mean, why doesn't the taxes on cigarettes go to fund lung cancer research? Wouldn't that be a fair distribution of the money stolen from smokers? Shouldn't it go back to them?

The taxes on gasoline are used to build and repair roads. The taxes on your phone bill go to provide low-cost or free phones for the poor. Your local taxes go to your local community. That's how it is supposed to work.
