the most important thing is to support their head and neck, as they arn't strong enought to do so themselves, and never pick them up by their heads, legs, etc., just be gentle, but not so gentle that you're afraid to hold them. They're tougher than you think

When lifting a newborn, Make sure you support their heads at all times. Their little necks are not strong enough yet to hold their heads up.

If you saw what a baby has to go through to get out of the womb, you would realize how tough they are.
But do support the head and back. Hold it close to your body so it can hear your heart.

Yes, always have one hand supporting their neck/head, and one under their body. Once you have a baby, that fear kind of disappears as you get used to handling them.

make sure that when you pick the baby up that you always have your hand placed behiind there head even when you are holding them close they have no control of there necks when they are new borns.

One hand under their neck--important as they have no neck muscles--and try the other hand under their bottom/lower back. And snuggle!!
