I watched the replays and it clearly was not a foul. The Italian player tripped by himself. I wanted Italy to win, but not this way. That referee took a possible victory away from Australia. I hope FIFA will take the proper action over this and penalize the referee.

Frankly I think the penalty call was technically a good one.But I thought it was unfair since Australia played better and it was just left with less than 5 seconds to the end of the game. The ref should have allowed the game to go on into the extra time.If even Italy had won in the extra time it would have been fairer.

I think another BS call by the refs. The Italian player was in the box, as an Aussie player slid to get the ball, he missed and as the Italian player passed the ball, he was standing over the Aussie player and fell - selling the call in theat oh so Italian way of flopping to get a call. The fans at Kaierslauten were jeering, booing and basically were 95% against the call. But hey - in this years World Cup - expect horseshit calls in favor of the finesse teams, ala Italy, Latin teams, etc.
Bad call, especially with :30 seconds in the game. It wasnt a cvlear foul nor did the Aussie player contact the Italian, he was laying there.

Overall a very dull game. Still, its quite obvious that wasn't a foul, therefore no penalty should have been awarded. FIFA has issued very strict guidelines to the referees, hence the bad refereeing that continues to be the star of this Cup. It has absolutelly nothing to do with latin teams. It has to do with the referees. In 2002, the latin teams suffered from appaling refereeing when they played against Japan and Korea.
Its a lousy way to go out regardless of the team.
Hiddink should have played Kewell.
Enjoy the beatiful game!!!

I´m not so sure, I would say no. Australia played a good game and I also think they would have won. Wouldn't´t that have been great for some reason? Australia beats Italy? Everything can happen in this world cup!

I really don't think it was justified. The guy really didn't get tripped - the Australian player was already down, and in my opinion the Italian could have simply stepped over him. I think he fell on purpose to create the penalty kick for Italy.

It wasnt justified. I can't believe they didn't beat the referee up cuz I would. The guy jumped over a guy on the ground and fell. That is fraud.
