I have told my husband of over 20 years I am unhappy and think a divorce is the best option. He does not want this and is trying very hard to work on things. I feel none of the feelings I should feel for my mate. There has been some verbal abuse over the years. He now says he is sorry and understands that is not the way you treat someone you love. I am afraid it is a little too late for that. I need to know how to proceed without totally devastating him, as I do care about his feelings, just dont want to be with him anymore.

Wow, 20 years! Counseling is definitely the first line of defense! If you are willing to try one last thing before ending the relationship, please try counseling with a licensed counselor. It seems like the easy way out now but believe me, the hurt and destruction divorce causes makes losers of everyone involved.

see a paralegal have them draw up the papers (its cheaper ) have them file them for you and have him served the papers by someone he dont know, the hard part is getting him to move out because if you move out you will not get the house he will tell him this chapter in both of your lives is over and you both deserve to bve happy not just him .

I don't think you will be able to do it with out hurting his feelings. Your just going to have to be brave and do what's right for you and he will just have to deal with it.
