I've always assumed it meant that the sky was jealous because the gold in the fields was brighter than the gold of the sun; at least from the point of view of the lovers in the song.

Some people aren't very nice, are they? I wish those sort of people would just go away if they are too stupid to understand a question or don't know where it comes from. Well anyway, that's enough of the moaning. I agree with LornaJane. The sky is jealous because it thinks the fields are prettier than it.

the sky is jealous on the "moon" and the "sun" that can be found on earth as two lovers...on the stars that lead virtually on our path through life and on the storms,thunders,rainy,sunny days each one has from us in his/her own life...on earth happens more then in the sky...i would be damn jealous about that...
