Bring him to a hospital or to the police. If you want to foster him or adopt him you would have to apply through your state's DSS. But it must be reported.

If I found one I would make sure he was warm and as comfortable as I could and then(sigh) I would be compelled to take him to the hospital and fess up about what the situation was because there might be a medical condition I don't know about and cannot take care of. Also just because one person left the baby doesn't necessarily mean another family member doesn't want them. If what you say isn't just a pretend question, I urge you to at the very least get a doctor to examine the baby and keep your eyes and ears peeled for anyone searching for a newborn.

If I found a new born abandoned baby I would take it to the hospital, to see if it's alright and nothing is wrong with it. If it's healthy and seems like there is nothing wrong with it. Then take it to the police station and tell them you found it. But for the most part keep it because if they can not find the parents they will pout it up for adoption.

First, I cannot believe that you found an abandoned baby and are on this board asking what to do. So, I am guessing that this is hypothetical. So, hypothetically speaking, I would call 911 and tell them to meet me at the fire house (it is less than two blocks from me). I would then make application to be a foster parent for that baby since God put that baby in my life in such a drastic way.

Take him to the hospital to be checked out. They will call the police and let them know you have found a baby. They will search for the birth parents to prosecute them (it is illegal to abandon your baby) and tell them you would like to adopt him. you will then begin all of the appropriate procedures from there.

It would be hard to just keep him, because eventually he's going to need to go to school and they'll want to see birth certificates, health records, etc... You'll have to get some sort of legal help to keep him. I really don't know the procedure but I know that if you bring him to the police or DCFS, they will want to put him in a licensed foster care home, and it will take a while for you to get licensed. Maybe gewt a family lawyer, or if you belong to a church ask them if there are ways they can help you... I hope you will be able to keep him!

if you did, then the mother may have post-partum psychosis or post-partum PTSD and may need a medical diagnosis and treatment. mothers who do this normally get 'back to reality' in a couple of days and realize what they've done and that they want their babies and feel horrible and ashamed and unworthy to be mothers.
there may be a mother out there who needs post-natal care, and needs her baby. i hope that she can be found, because her baby needs HER and not a substitute which is what adopters are -- substitutes for the REAL thing.
take the baby to a hospital ASAP for medical treatment. they'll call the police, who hopefully will put out a public service announcement to try to find the mother.
post-partum psychosis, post-partum depression, and post-partum PTSD are a real medical disorders.

Take the baby to the hospital and report it to the authorities. Then go an apply to adopt the baby, if you want to care for the baby. Good luck to you!
