As a fan of the show mythbusters, i must tell you that it is possible to be electrocuted in the shower during a thunderstorm. Its not too likely that it will happen, but it could. And if you know Murphy's law.......

I got struck by lighting washing dishes it came through the water pipes. So, yes, you can get struck by lightening in the shower.

Don't take a bath or shower during a thunderstorm, didn't your grandmother or mother ever tell you that?

It isn't a urban myth, you shuld see the scare on my shoulder where it exited my body!

Enclosed buildings are safe because of wiring and plumbing. If lightning strikes these types of buildings, or an outside telephone pole, the electrical current from the flash will typically travel through the wiring or the plumbing into the ground. This is why you should stay away from showers, sinks, hot tubs, etc., and electronic equipment such as TVs, radios, and computers

Actually not always, but it is possible. If a lightning strike directly hits an underground pipeline, which could possible lead to your house, you could get electrocuted because the pipes energy will be transfered to the water, which will become electrocuted and will electrocute you.

No, it's the honest truth. Lightening is attracted to metal and to water. Taking a shower during a thunderstorm is not safe, or wise.

I've taken showers during thunderstorms. I think it's a old wives tale.

Yes you can. Electricity will take the least resistive path, so if you are under the water and the lightening hits your plumbing it can travel through the water and you to the drain (the drain and other parts of plumbing are sometimes tied to earth ground).

Years ago I lived in Arizona and during one of the monsoon storms a man who had his feet under his TV got zapped in his big toe.

I hope this helped you.

It is not smart to shower if the thunderstorm is right overhead. They tell you to unplug your phone, TV, to stay away from windows and not open doors, and not run water!

I've heard of this as well. I've also heard that you're not supposed to use the phone or watch t.v. during a thunderstorm.
