Yes there will be a 4th. It will come after the Wolverine and Magneto spinoff films but look at the first 3. Even the third movie (easily the weakest of the 3) is making rediculous amounts of cash. There are still plenty of stories to use and if Hollywood can make money they'll do it.
I also would suggest not listening to what the director says, if the studio's are smart, they'll bring back Bryan Singer for the 4th. His success with Superman Returns will give him even more ability to pick his films. As quickly as Brett Ratner was brought in to replace Bryan Singer, the studio can easily replace Ratner.
Last point, the 4th movie would be easy to do, technically none of the main characters are guaranteed dead!

I think it was only supposed to be a trilogy. They took 30-40 years of X-Men story lines and filled them in 3 movies. I hope there is a 4th one because the story just feels incomplete.

not sure title of x3 indicates no: yet the ending of the movie left a lot of room for a 4th movie. I hope they do make another one but only time will tell

I am assuming you are referencing the end of X3, and it sure seemed to me that there was going to be an X4 after watching that! However, I haven't heard any official reports yet...

As of right now the plan is to give Wolvernine his own spin-off series of movies.

unfortunately for us- x fans it wont...as the director himself said actually...watch more news ppl...there wont be...though he promised to make other movies which may include as well Wolverine, which is one of the most enjoyable character.(with hugh jackman 'course)
