Simply - YES. Why not, ask them alot of questions. Then shut up and listen to the history of the world. Nobody shuts up today, everyone want to blab on. I'm shuttin' up now....

I think it's very interesting to hear what my grandparents went through (being in their late 80's). All the history they've been through...all the inventions and everyday comforts that we all take for granted. I have a grandmother that lived in Germany before Hitler and left before things got crazy over there.
To hear about not having a car, a radio, a TV, a phone, air conditioning, living far from somewhere, having to make most things especially meals because of few restaurants. Imagine the changes that could take place in your own life and how different those changes are from people in their 80s.
Ask quickly! Write down your family tree soon!! I only have one grandparent left and they're to be cherished as well as our parents.

Hi There,
My Grandfathers brother James used to be a scout with the wagon trains. He used to get so far ahead sometimes, he would spend nights alone in the vast territory. He had Native American Indian friends, and was an Immigrant from Ireland. He played the Fiddle, and I remember playing Turkey in the Straw with him, and I also played Violin in the school orchestra.
Maybe in another hundred years or so, when the story evolves, I will have been a Child Prodigy. That is, if the Planet Survives the Human Race.
History of family is just passed on from one Generation to another, and one should never lose their roots, no matter where they decide to settle and live their dreams.
I feel fortunate to have memories, as some people have lost all of their family, and their history is lost along with them. This is when Culture is our back-up. All Culture has a certain History for us to explore. Some Culture is passed on through the ages with music.
One example, is Bob Marley. He left a Legacy for not only his family, but for the World.
Your Grandparents would probably love to share with you...

I don't think it should be compulsory -- but it is a good idea.
Not everyone is interested in genealogy. I never was until a few years ago. Now, I really wish that I had talked with my grandparents about our family history when they were alive.

yes, family history is important especially for health reasons, but also so you know where you came from. Once they are gone it will be too late to find out all you want to know.

i think people should get to know where they came from and spending time with grand parents can be a lot of fun. there is no better way to learn your family history than through the eyes of the people that were there to experience it all.

Absolutely! When they are gone, their stories go with them. My Mother just wrote a book about her life, she is 85 years old. Everyone in the family wants to read it. She has another one in the works now, and it is funny, interesting and we so relate to it even in our own time. It is a legacy and a heirloom you can get nowhere else. Go for it! Garnet
