i don't think it's healthy for me to stay on the pill

well, i'm doing it. if anyone wants me to let them know how it went for me, email me. i know most ppl say 'no' because it wasn't designed to be taken in partial doses, and i know my periods will get messed up for a bit. doctors will say 'no' because the pill wasn't designed for such use and they don't want to get sued. if i stay on a pill it will be worse for me in the long run.

I'm sorry but that will be ineffective in helping with acne, the pill only prevent acne caused by hormonal fluctuations while you are taking a full dose, splitting them in half will do you no good because each week has a different dose of hormones anyway. once you get off the pill you will begin to breakout if your hormones would have caused you to regardless if you weaned or not.
unfortionately if the pill has helped your acne, and your acne was caused by hormones, face cream or wash or toner etc will do nothing for it when it does come back.

if you prove me wrong please e mail me, I suffered from acne when I got off the pill at 21 years old though my face was clear as a teen (because I was on the pill from 13 on) I have tried every acne med and/or perscription on the market and nothing makes any difference. the only thing that has helped was pregnancy (must be the hormones lol)

I'd say that there's no disadvantage to staying ON them. The pill has been around nearly 50 years and longterm use has been proven safe for most. So even if you're not in a relationship, if it manages your acne and keeps your period shorter, why not just stay on it?

As to weaning - probably not of any value as the pills these days are so low dosage.

Talk to your doctor about other ways to control your skin. There are both oral meds and topicals that can work well.

You can not wean yourself from birth control pills . It is all or nothing. There is a specific amount of hormones in each pill for each specific time of the month. That is why you take certain pills on week one and the next row on week two and so on. If you mess around with your birth control pills you will mess up your cycle really bad and it may take several months to regulate it again. If the goal is pregnancy then just quit taking them. If you dont want to take them then quit. Also be aware that half of a birth control pill does nothing to control birth . There is no upside or reason to wean yourself form bc pills.

I am not sure whether you are taking the pills for birth control or acne control? However, it is not a good idea either way. The modern pill is of a much lower dose than before and by cutting the pills in half, they become ineffective. As a result, you may get pregnant, your periods will not be regular, and your acne will come back anyway.

If you are not taking it for birth control, you can stop it and try another way of controlling the acne outbreak - there are many effective medications available.

Consult with your doctor before you do this, please!

I understand the feeling. After many years of loving what ortho-tricyclene did for my skin, I absolutely HATED when I had to go off them and suffer through hormonal acne for a few months. Rest assured that the skin does clear up when you re-stablize off the pills. But taking very lose doses of estrogen and other ingredients in birth control pills can have a lot of other harmful side effects and is not good for you. Don't try it on your own without better information and medical supervision.

I understand that you're worried about acne. Thats why I'm on the pill myself. But please call your doctor's office and ask to speak to a nurse. I don't think you're supposed to "wean" off the pill. You'll release eggs like crazy. And if your planning a pregnancy...you're gonna have a lot of zits anyway.

I've never done this. I was on the pill ages ago to regulate my menstrual cycle, and I really don't remember it doing that much for my complexion in the first place. When I stopped taking them, I just stopped. Have you considered talking with your ob/gyn to get a prescription for lower stregnth pills? I think some of them have less estrogen in them, don't they? That seems safer than cutting them in half.

I've never "weaned" myself off of birth control but if thats what you think will work for your skin. I would still ask my dr. they may have something just for that.

All these people are saying do not do it if you do not want to get pregnant. But I am assuming that you want to get pregnant otherwise you wouldnt be going off the pills to begin with. So I say go for it and good luck
