You give very little info, do you want a perennial, annual, bush, what zone are you in? However I will give you a few suggestion that should work for zones 4-8 ( most of the country, I think.
Potenttiais (sp) a bush flowers much of summer in yellow or orange, and syringa which flowers most of summer and is shades of pink, these are both perennial and can be pruned to keep under 5 ft. Then are annual in a large variety, zinnias, snapdragons, sweet williams, larkspur, etc, etc--- Your best bet is to go to a garden center and browse and ask quections of the staff.

You'd need to say what part of the coutry you live in for a good answer, also how wide and what tyope your looking for. A bush? Perrenials?
Azaleas, the new smaller ones are gfood bushes, so are Hydrangeas if shady, and your not in too cold of a climate.
Look for plants labeled as dwarf. Most plants have this type too, even if you see them as huge ones they may have made a smaller version. Ask around your local home center, Lowe's has a real gardner on staff. Also landscapers often will do consults and small plantings relatively cheap.

Well it depends on your locale. Jasmine works great for me, nice fragrant flowers that bloom in spring, very easy to maintain. Or you could try some Lavender, there are so many to actually choose from.

Gerber Daises are really bright, pretty flowers that you can dig up any time to move or they make good flower pot flowers. They don't get too tall, and they last throught out the summer and come back every spring. (bulb flower).

I like daylillies and hostas. Both are easy to take care of and have nice flowers. And the green leaves make good landscaping when they aren't flowering.

Mallows (Malva sylvestris) are good. They spread though, so make sure you grow them in an area where you want them. If you're looking more for shrubs there's nandina and kerria.
