alcohol is a drug, smoking is a drug....it depends on the doses you put in your body to see which damaging effect is worse...plus they target different areas of your body : alcohol the liver, smoking the lungs - plus it'd depend on which tissue is able to withstand more of the drug...you can't outright assume one affects your body in a more detrimental way than the other...

acutely (meaning short term effects) yes immediate effects are much more significant from alcohol. Comparing long term effects depends. Drinking in moderation compared with smoking in moderation smoking probably has a worse long term effect. Long term effects from drinking are not generally see except in alcholics who drink excessive amounts frequent. Smoking is carcinogenic so less may be needed to effect your body over long term. It really is tough to compare the 2 because they are 2 different drugs and have different effects. I would simply go over the effects of both, perform a comparison and maybe try and find some dose-toxicity values as to how much and how frequent of each one it takes to show effects on body. And if i were writing the paper i would discuss 2 sections acute/ immediate affects and long term effects. And then compare the two and try and find some risk assessment info on each

Also, usually smoking doesn't cause you to lose all of your senses and smash into someone when you are driving.
Or rape or cheat on people!
Smoking and Alcohol are both bad, in my opinion =)

They destroy different part's of your body.

One the lungs and another the liver... I don't think either is recommended.
