The way I look at it is, "If there's grass on the field, play ball!"

FYI, I think the age of consent in most states should be 14-16. 12 is way too young, though I lost my virginity in sixth grade.

palevox: Thus far, you have provided the best answer. And for the record, I used to take full advantage of Canada's liberal laws regarding age of consent, if you know what I mean. =)

...that was when I turned 19/18 and could legally drink in Ontario and Quebec. Good times!

In Canada, it WAS lowered to 14, the Government is looking to raise it back up again. There are statutes that allow for 'within a certain number of years' (for eg, a 15 year old with a 16 year old)
I think it should be around 16, with 18 being the regular adulthood age. I think it's silly that in the USA an 18 year old can join the military and potentially kill someone, but can't have a drink legally... now THAT is a weird one.

"Grass on the field" are you serious? That is so totally sickening. The age of consent is fine where it is. With some people it's even too low. There are so many kids who don't know anything about what happens and what the consequences can be. That is totally a moronic thing to say.

You should lobby in your state for changing these laws. Citizens can and have made a difference in laws. Like Mothers Against Drunk Driving. You can get laws changed sometimes. Or at least hold rallies and try to convince lawmakers to change them. And you should become a lawmaker, a legislator so you can have even more influence in changing these types of laws.

No. Do you really think a 12 year old really knows the consequences of life choices for themselves? The truth is even most 18 year olds are clueless to life choice consequences.

This country is intent on stifling the sexuality of younger teens because of the implications of free casual sex. If there weren't so many negative consequences, it WOULD be the right thing to do.
