It is too early until your baby is 6 months old. Every health organization worldwide (including the American Academy of Pediatrics, The World Health Organization, and Health Canada) recommends waiting until the baby is 6 months old.

Once you *do* start solids, don't use so-called "baby foods". Real food is tastier and more nutritious. Fruits are usually better than grains; you can offer your daughter a piece of banana. Or, if you want to give her a grain first, just cook up some brown rice and give her a spoonful. Most of it will land in her hair or on the floor, but you'll know if she's interested in eating it.

Studies have shown that starting a baby on solids too early can lead to obesity in early childhood and into adulthood. The advice I've heard is to wait until the child is 5 or 6 months old by which time they have lost some of their tongue thrust reflex and can move "solids" to the back of their mouths to swallow. Also, at this point most children can hold their heads up well and can turn away to refuse food when they are full - a critical component to the obesity issue (if they can't "tell" you they're done, you might overfeed).

All my children were eating cereal at or before this point. Formula/breast milk just wasn't enough for them.
Start out with a tiny bit of cereal and lots of milk so it is a very thin consistency and just see how she does. Some babies take to it right away others need more time!
Make sure it is not too thick though!!!
Good luck and talk to your pediatrician if you have any concerns!

It depends on you and your pediatrician. I think the standard is either 4 months or six months. Some studies have shown that starting your baby off any earlier than 4 months old on solids (cereals, fruits, veggies, etc.) can lead to food allergies and obesity. My kids are still young yet (27 months and 11 months) but I started both of them on cereal at 4 months, and neither of them are fat or allergic to any foods.

Both of my children were big when they were born and a bottle wasn't enough for my first after he got to be about 2 months...so i did give him cereal. I held him in my arms like i would to feed him a bottle...and kinda dripped small amounts of very milky cereal. He loved it and by 8 months he didn't want another bottle ever again. I say go for it. You know your baby better than anyone, if she's hungry,,,,let her eat.

My pediatrician said you should never add cereal to a baby's bottle. When you start giving your baby cereal it should be spoon fed. I would wait until your baby is at least 3 month old before starting to feed her cereal.

hmmmmmmm this is tricky b/c most baby's start @ 4 months.... mine started @ 3 months b/c she was never full. Start out with a little cereal, like a half teaspoon for 2 weeks, then 3/4.... for 2 weeks, and so forth.

If she is acting like she is still hungry after drinking her formula I say start her on cereal. I actually gave my son cereal when he was two weeks old, he slept through the night immediately, he just wasnt satisfied with milk alone. Most doctors do not recommend this but your baby knows when he/she is hungry not the doctor.

I think it depends on your baby- is formula filling him up? If not try a little cereal and go from there. When my daughter started on baby food I continued the cereal and add yugurt or applesauce to it- she loves it and it really is so good for her. Good Luck

I heard that is too early - You need to wait longer than that because the 2 month old can;t really even hold up their head. They need to be around 5 and half to six months old becasue they are able to spit stuff out if need be.
