Well, Studies have shown that life started with a single cell organism. This was figured by the adaptation that they grew to multiple cells which were mammals. So the correct answer would be "The chicken came before the egg.

If it was a dinosaur egg, then egg, because dinosaurs laid eggs far before chickens were in existence....

...But if we are talking of chicken eggs, then it is an impossible question to answer. If the egg came first, there would have to be a chicken to lay the egg. if a chicken came first, this chicken would have had ton hatch from an egg. Man, that is one viscious circle!

The protozoan. But if you want to find a way to decide which out of those two, in the current state of the chickens they grow first from eggs. Or you could google each "chicken" and "egg" and see which one comes out #1 in the most hits.

It depends on your definitions.

If a "chicken egg" is an egg laid by a chicken, then the chicken came first.

If a "chicken egg" is instead an egg containing a chicken, then the egg came first.
