The distance between the sun and the earth is not constant because the earth's orbit around the sun is not exactly circular. It is closer in the northern hemisphere. And as it rotates and revolves towards the eastern side it will be far when compared to northern side.
Approximately to say the distance between the sun and the earth is nearly 100 million miles or if measured in terms of light years it wil be 0.25millionth of a light year.

The Sun is about 150 million kilometres from the Earth. The problem is the Earth revolves around the Sun in an elliptical orbit so the distance is constantly changing. The Earth is closest to the Sun on January 4th when its distance is 147 million kilometres, and furthest from the Sun on July 4th when its distance is 152 million kilometres. So, about 150,000,000 means somewhere between 147 and 152 million.. Light, travelling at 300,000 kilometres per second, takes 8 minutes 20 seconds to reach the Earth from the Sun.
