If you have a really good computer system with a lot of memory and fast processor, I recommend the XP Pro. They have better security and they handle business applications better. For example, I would rather run JAVA and SQL on Pro than on Home Edition. If you have a small business computer, get the Pro. If you have a personal home computer, get the Home Edition.

If you dont have such a great system, then the Home Edition is right for you. If you try to install PRO on a 128MB, Pentium III processor system, it will blow up on you.

Only you can decide which is a better value. Retail for XP Home is about $199 while retail for XP Pro is about $299. There's a site at www.edirectsoftware.com that sells legitimate install CDs for a lot less.

My comp originally had XP Home. It was lacking a bit on being able to handle business applications. I upgraded to Pro and I've been satsified.

XP Pro is better, not just with security, but also with features.

Cos in XP Pro, yu can use features that are not available for home users (Eg Group policy editor) if you like tinkering with your comp, like people used to with their cars in the olden times.

Get XP Pro. XP Home is full of exploits and you're just asking for trouble if you get it.

depends, xp pro has more developer tools and things like that. if you arent sure whether or not you need xp pro, then save some cash and get xp home.

The only difference between the two, is the pro has a slight different secruity setting. Otherwise there is no real visiable difference.

In general Pro has things that one would need in a Professional atmosphere such as credential saving for network shares, remote desktop connection availability, and domain logon capablity.
