someone i work with has a weird box that is popping up all the time stating "your computer is full of evidence"...everything you are doing is being tracked. it can be seen by relatives... all this stuff. he's in another state and i cant see exactly what's happening so i'm not exactly sure what it says. it says "click here" to download some protection software or something. has anyone heard of this or experienced it? what is it and how can i get rid of it?

Ok here's what you do:

1) Download SpyBot Search & Destroy, AdAware, and Spy Sweeper (search on the net, first 2 are free and you can get the third as a trial version)
2) Download a personal firewall like ZoneAlarm or Kerio if you don't already have one installed. Run it.
3) Run scans with all 3 of the programs I mentioned first. This will clear your computer of all the spyware and adware you might have.

The firewall will protect you from a good deal of malicious things on the net, but not all. To ensure your computer stays clean, keep updated versions of SpyBot and AdAware and scan about once a week.

This should fix your problems. Spy Sweeper is a one-time thing, as the trial expires after 30 days, but it can detect a couple of things that SpyBot and AdAware can't.

What that is is a piece of adware from the seller...it's annoying, but not dangerous. There may be an uninstall utility for it on their homepage. Also, if you download the Yahoo toolbar (free) it has an anti-spyware utility that might remove it. Otherwise there are many good anti-adware/spyware programs out there for sale, like spy sweeper, ad-aware, etc. Hope this helped.

It's spam trying to get him to buy a "cleaner". If it's popping up while in different applications or websites, it may be installed on his computer. If this is his work computer, the IT department should take a look at it, especially if he doesn't know what he's doing. Someone that knows the system at all will be able to find it, it's probably not even hidden.

The question is what was he doing last night that someone would want to gather evidence. Sounds like it might have been fun
