Well, Recent studies have shown that the chicken came first as life started with a single cell organism. This was figured by the adaptation they grew to multiple cellular which were mammals. So the correct answer would be "The chicken came before the egg.

The egg came first. The chicken had to hatch out of something and this is the egg. Whatever laid the egg might not have been a chicken, even if close to one. The egg was laid with a genetic mutation that was the chicken.
