That is just the way Answers works. If you think it is 'stoopid' then don't take part in Yahoo! Answers. Simple really!

I suppose so the questions dont go overload! I mean think of all the questions that dont get answered for like months! Then people are dissopointed, if it didnt lose points to post them there would be alot more, and alot left unawnswered and the website cant keep up with them all so it would crash.

It's not "losing" (one o) and it's not stupid-- you need points in order to ask questions, and the only way to get points is to answer questions and to rate others' answers, to participate in the whole forum. This establishes a system of reciprocity and prevents people from only asking and never helping out other askers by answering.

i agree. Sometimes the yahoo answers admins deleted your question even if it's an appropriate question. I asked people "why are you guys online at this very moment" and the question got deleted. Last time i checked, it was a descent question.

i agree it's stupid but if you pick a best answer to your question after 24 hours you get 3 points back.

I think it's more of an incentive for people to sctually answer them, and answer them seriously. (If your answer is picked best answer, you get bonus points) They also want to avoid people just asking dumb questions for the heck of it; they want it to be a helpful tool.
