http://www.stifflip.com is running and looking great. It has a good name and excellent base of members. I've registered it with the top 5 search engines and it even gets thousands of hits per month (although the search engine bots don't seem to be drilling down through the layers -- they just catalog the main page).

In order for it to become really great, we need more members and more people posting.

There are many other forums out there, but some of the biggest actually charge you money to be a full member. I don't like that, and I don't like ads, so StiffLip is all about simply being a great place people can discuss, rant, argue, share, and enjoy.

Please give me some ideas on how to drum up more posting members.

Thanks!

I got most of these tips from Lissaexplains.

First of all, you want your forum to look memorable, welcoming, and loads fast for dial-up users. Try creative designs.

Also, encourage your members to post more and be kind to each other. If visitors see your members in friendly conversations, they're more likely to join. On the other hand, if the forum had no posts for weeks, visitors might think there's no one at the forum anymore.

Even though your forum already get so many hits, perhaps it's still not enough. Try seeing how popular your site is compared to other websites at Link Popularity Check.

This is more for websites than for forums, but another tip I found is this: Sign guestbooks. A lot of webmasters are influential people and many people visit their sites. A lot of guestbooks have a place where you can put an URL, put your forum's URL there, and take the time to give the webmaster an excellent feedback. It's worth the time.

You have to have unique content for your site to become more popular. If it is just like any other forum then it will be hard to get people who post on the other forums to switch to yours and stay active.

Make sure you have links on your site which link to similar sites. Many offer link exchanges.

the wonderful way is to come again on places like this, ask around who's involved, and circulate to different boards, placed your talk board call obtainable and easily symbolize it. some good boards:
