It's because they are so protected during a game of American football that if they even touch a football they would hurt themselves reallllllllly sore. Ya see although they appear to be big hunks of men when they are on the field, they only play for a short session each time before they are taken off to rest [ wouldn't want to over exert them now would we] Actually they are really just wimps of men who couldn't last for a full 90minutes playing PROPER FOOTBALL.

Beaker sounds like someone who's never actually stepped onto a football field in his life. Unlike soccer, American football is a full-contact sport, which takes a lot out of you, especially when played in the extremes of the American climate, which can easily be 110 degrees in Phoenix in late August/early September to -25 or -30 in Green Bay or Chicago in January. The number of injuries and deaths associated with the sport in its early days dictated the need for helmets and padding.
You don't see American football players rolling around on the ground feigning injuries to try and draw a penalty on the other guys. If he's down on the ground, he's HURT. Most soccer players wouldn't stand a chance if nailed by a 260-lb middle linebacker coming at them at full speed with the full intent of putting them in the morgue.

American football players aren't suppose to head the football. I think you have your sports mixed up unless you are talking about American soccer players and your claim that they are afraid to head a soccer ball. In any case.....
American FOOTBALL rules!!

Well, I think you're generalizing a little bit. Nonetheless, there is the risk of injury. Defenseman Choi Jin Cheul of the Korea Republic soccer team got knocked pretty well in the head by Senderos (spelling?) of the Swiss soccer team. Also, you might recall McBride of the US soccer team getting elbowed in the head. Football (or soccer in the States) can be a brutal game, haha.

Because they're NOT playing soccer. You could also ask , "Why aren't baseball pitchers not throwing bowling balls?" It makes as much sense.
