i have a 01 and love it. i am a car guy so normal maintainace is cheap, seeing as though i do the work myself. its true the brakes are not the best in the world, but what i did was got brembo drilled and slotted rotors, and some ceramic pads. works great. the one thing that no one has said in here yet, is the v6 head gasket goes bad after about 75k miles. but if you do it yourself, its about $20 for new gaskets. its not hard to do either. me and my buddy did it in about a day.
i have never had a major problem with it, and love my car.
i wish you luck

I own a 2003 Oldsmobile Alero which is basically the same car. I don't recommend owning one. I bought the car new in 2003 and here is a few problems I've had since ownership:
1. replaced both front wheel bearings at $600
2. replaced oxygen sensor at $100
3. replaced both front brakes at $200
4. cruise control light comes on sometimes and can't use it
From personal experience, I highly don't recommend buying any GM cars. When I get this Alero paid for, I'm getting a Mitsubishi Eclipse!!!

I had a 93 Pontiac bonneville and I had SO many problems with the starter & alternator as well as anything electric. Every few days or so a fuse would blow & I'd have to change it. It got really annoying. I have a Saturn now (which isn't much better) but I'm pretty sure I'm going to go for a Toyota or Subaru next time around...

According to consumer reports; the 2003 Pontiac Grand Am is supposed to be reliable. Dual front air bags come standard and abs is availible. Front wheel drive. Loud, noisy "quad-four" engine. Very loud inside car; unimpressing interior.

the interior and stuff like pwr windows & radio are crap, the engine is higher mantinance than most people would prefer, but for the price & size, its a fairly powerful engine. Most of this is true of almost all pontiacs after the late 80's

I have an '02 Grand Am GT1...... and I love it. It handles awesome, is great on gas and really gets up and goes if I need it to. I haven't had any problems at all with my car. I really would recommend this car to anyone!

PIECE OF SH*IT. i have one. power windows usually go bad after awhile. prepare yourself for getting brakes repaired often. gas mileage sucks, ESPECIALLY in the city. get the V6 so you'll at least have some power to it. I've had to replace rotors on mine twice, pads three times (not including the ones I'm replacing in a week) And I bought mine BRAND NEW!! Screw this and get a honda or something .
