I see apartments for $600 a month and such around my area and wondering if most places still make you pay gas and electric payments on that, or if that's included in the rent.

Not in my rentals, water, trash, gardening are included in the rent, but the resident has their own gas and electric meters and pay for their unit's usage. Sometimes cable is included, security system and monitoring are included rental incentive, but not always.

Generally speaking, expect it to not be included. Different apartment complexes do include certain utilities, water, gas, etc... You're going to have to call and ask if any utilities are included. Eitherway, with it being an apartment, your utilities shouldnt be too bad. My total utilities for my house were around 200$ a month. I had a pool I was refilling every week or two in summer, our washing machine and dryer were constantly going, gas range, gas water heater... All in all, it was fairly cheap for my utilities, for you it should be even less, considerably less.

Where the heck do you live? I know you're not in NYC, $600 is unheard of! Anyway... I'm not sure how it goes elsewhere, but most of the apartments in NYC don't include utilites (gas/electric) but heat and hot water are included.

You'll have to call, but 99% off the time utilities are extra. Only thing that most apartments include is water.

If any of those things are included, it usually will be advertised as such. Otherwise, I'd say nope. One quick call to the main office will answer your questions.

The ad should state whether or not utilities are included. Often, they are not. Sometimes only water is included. You have to check with each apartment.
