I don’t see why it is so difficult for people to understand that entering Iraq had nothing to do with oil. Just looking at the known oil reserves within the control of North America, then adding to that know deposits of shale oil, then adding to that the known deposits of sand oil in Canada, then looking at the known reserves of oil in South America, we have enough oil to exceed 200 years or more of demand. We have enough coal reserves (which can be converted into a form of crude oil) to cover at least 200 years from that resource. None of this takes into consideration oil developed from renewable biomass, or ethanol or hydrogen generated from renewable biomass or wind powered electrical generation. The fact is the Americas do not need oil from other parts of the world for at least 500 years.

In addition, oil from Iraq to the United States was very small if any at all prior to the war, and there is none now coming from Iraq and none required after the war.

The US was the major customer for Iraqi oil before the war. The war actually stopped the flow of oil to the US and then when it started flowing again it was at a far slower rate for a long time. This contributed to the lack of fuel supplies America went through.

The oil still flows and America still pays for it.

Because of the conflict and the uncertainties it caused the price of oil worldwide went rocketing and has stayed high. Thus America lost part of it's supply through the war and now pays significantly higher prices for oil. If there is an advantage in that I can't see it.

This conspiracy theory that the US wentr to war for the oil gets blown out of the water the moment you look at those few simple facts.

If americans believe and put this out is it any wonder countries that don't like America take it as a gift and use it.

For Blue:
Randy is correct, you are not. This is not a war about oil, if it was we would have simply taken it. Oil does however, play a role in the global war on terror. Oil is the means in which these terrorist states fund their Jihad. If Iran or other evil group finds a way to control the Middle East's oil reserves, they can use that not only to fund more terror but they can hold the world at ransom.

Their is more then enough oil in the world to last for hundreds of years. I remember very clearly being taught in school in the 80's that we only had 20 years of oil left. Yet here we are 25+ years later and there is plenty of oil.

The oil fields have been operational since the invasion of Iraq, so no I don't think we will leave. A better question might be " Will the Sunnis and Shia be able to agree to share oil revenues from ongoing production? If so, will they encourage insurgents to lay down arms in order to increase production?"

Were not going to leave Iraq, remember Korea? Yep still there. Remember Japan? Yep still there. Remember the new world, o ya we took that first.
For Randy below, I dont see why its hard to understand that earth wont be here if we keep using oil, and yes the war is about oil what else are we getting out of it?
