if there is an external monitor display vga card inside your laptop then you will be able to.
but if it is older than 9 years than definitly you wont have that card in your laptop.

It should be quite easy to connect your laptop to an external monitor.
I have an older Toshiba Sattelite which i connect up to a 17' monitor and standard mouse and keyboard,,,,it works quite well.

You should be able to if your laptop is newish - either by a SVideo out port or a monitor port like that found on the back of a baseunit.

Failing that, you may be able to get a port converter.
