At this stage in pregnancy the baby will try to use its lungs and practice breathing techniques, when he or she does the amniotic fluid gets in the windpipe and cause hiccups!!!!!!!
This is really common at this stage
Good luck

Oh my...my 9 year old hiccupped forever in a day. All night long and would keep me up. The other two did it as well, but not as much as my first.
This is what one article said:
The rhythmical flutter you feel may be heartbeats are actually fetal hiccups! Fetal hiccups begin in the middle of the second trimester and become more frequent in the third trimester. We do not know what causes fetal hiccups or why they occur. The presence of fetal hiccups throughout your pregnancy has no significance to the health of your fetus; so if you notice your fetus hiccupping have fun with it!
But to be honest, it was fun for the first five minutes and then I was worn out...LOL.
Take care!

It's quite normal - our baby hiccupped regularily in the womb, it was the funniest thing.
She's 9 weeks old now and still has at least one hiccupping session a day.

It's very normal and very common. Go get a book called " what to expect when you are expecting". It's the pregnancy bible and will help with all these questions. It's excellent in describing all of these little things that worry moms and help distinguish when something is "normal" or not.
Good Luck!

hiccups can be caused from an immature nervous system. Babies hiccup in utero and after birth as well.

When I was pregnant with my daughter she used to hiccupp every nite! It was funny to watch my belly jiggle!!! It is quite normal. Nothing to worry about. Congrats and hope everything goes well. Parenthood is such a joy that my daughter is turning 2 in August and we just found out we are expecting again sometime in February!!

Because babies swallow the amniotic fluid. Just like everyone else, if you swallow too fast or the wrong way you'll get hiccups.
