A chinchilla is a rodenty animal that hails from mountainous regions in Chile. It is clad in a soft, delicate fur that keeps it warm in the cooler northern climates. Its diet consists mainly of dried berries and seeds it finds in such climates. As a pet, it is very intelligent and can live for approximately 10 years. It must be kept in room temperatures less than 25'C and be fed a specific chinchilla diet (or rabbit diet, if chinchilla food cannot be found.) I enjoys snacking dried fruits and an occasional nut. It is a social animals that does well in group (especially an altered male/female pair) but if by itself it should be played with quite often to keep it from becoming depressed and understimulated. To keep it's fur from being oily, it should have dust baths on a daily basis.

A chinchilla is a very cute little animal from the rodent family. They are very furry and about the size of a guinea pig. Altho they are very cute, they are not very smart. I've also heard that they can frequently be too skittish to hold without being bitten. I know lots of people are going to say this isn't true, but I have never known anyone who had a friendly one.

All of the above, plus, unfortunately, they make fur coats out of them because they are so soft and furry.
