The front headlamp bulb has blown. I wanted to change it myself, but the light unit seems to be entirely closed, and I see no way to open it. Is this a job for a mechanic only? Many thanks for your help.

Gearhead. For your information, I have a degree in engineering (before I changed my life and took another three degrees in another discipline), and I know very well how to do a job like this. My question made no reference to tailgates at all. Rather, my question concerned the way in which to open the lightcasing because, as I said, I wanted to change the bulb myself, which I am perfectly capable of doing. (I built my own house!) But, as I have seen on many other cars, it is often deliberately closed in a way that makes it a mechanic's job, because they have the tools to do it, and also because it's a way of making the customer pay over the top for a job they can do themselves. So, cocky so-and-so you are, take note of the kindness offered to me by the other respondents here and try to learn from it, if you can, before you continue being 'clever' with all the 12 year olds on this site asking about masturbation, and leave people asking legitimate questions alone.

I'm amazed at the lack of knowledge displayed here! I mean, come on! Asking how to open tailgates or change headlights!? Unbelievable!
I doubt you have a degree in engineering or the ability to build your own house if you can't figure out how to change a damn headlight.

You are probably quite right that it appears closed from the front. Most cars these days have the bulb inserted from behind. Usually it involves unplugging the connection from the back side in the engine compartment and then removing the bulb assembly.

I have just looked up the 'handbook' for my Clio which is a few years older than yours and it shows all bulbs are replacable. It looks a bit fiddly, but straightforward. Look up your handbook under 'bulbs' and have a go.................
