so basically what grades do i add up to know what i got?

YES, you do add all 3 scores: reading, writing and math together to get your combine score out of 2400. However, some colleges aren't considering the writing score since it's fairly new, but you still add it.

The critical reading, math, and writing.

Writing is stand alone part of SAT and many other tests. Its score is not inclded in SAT score. When (in near past) writing was not included in SAT, the students had to take separate tests for writing (TWE).
